Wireless Fidelity – popularly known as Wi-Fi, is the recent technology advancement in wireless communication.
It uses radio technology and connects the user to the Internet from any place such as their home, office or a public place without the hassles of plugging in the wires.
A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, mobile phone, or personal digital assistant (PDA) can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet.
The coverage of one or more access points — called hotspots — can comprise an area as small as a few rooms or as large as many square miles. Coverage in the larger area may depend on a group of access points with overlapping coverage.
Wi-Fi networks provide secure, reliable, fast wireless connectivity.
Wi-Fi networks operate in the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, with some products that contain both bands. They can provide real-world performance similar to basic wired networks.
The coverage range of WiFi is about 200 meters which can be extended to few kilometers by increasing the number of access points.
